Mid-Winter Play Day provides fun for children and adults

Fifth annual event will feature music, dance and games

Takoma Park, Md., Feb. 1, 2015—Adults and children are invited to “play” at the Fifth Annual Mid-Winter Play Day sponsored by the Takoma Park Recreation Department and the nonprofit Let’s Play Takoma.

The free event will be from 1-4pm on Sunday, Feb. 8, at the Takoma Park Community Center, 7500 Maple Avenue, Takoma Park, Md.

“We hope everyone will come out and play!” said Pat Rumbaugh, founder of Let’s Play America and its national counterpart, Let’s Play America.  “We are working to improve health and happiness and bring people together through the joy of play.”

This year’s event will feature music by the Takoma Park Community Band and “Bach to Rock,” as well as dance classes for all ages.  Other activities will include face painting, homemade play dough fun, and playing with boxes.

Let’s Play Takoma and Let’s Play America work to build communities where the young and old can safely enjoy outdoor and indoor play as a regular part of their lives. Such play has been shown to increase physical health, mental health and a sense of well-being, as well as forge stronger ties between diverse community members.

Members of the media are encouraged to attend the Mid-Winter Play Day. For more information, see the Let’s Play Takoma website at www.takomaplays.org, or contact Rumbaugh at 301-928-9962 or theplaylady@gmail.com. More information about Let’s Play America can be found at www.letsplayamerica.org.
